Sleeping in a clean bed is the most relaxing feeling in the world. Crawl into your bed between clean smelling sheets and you will drift off into a serene, relaxing sleep. Even though those clean sheets have you enraptured by their scent, they may be hiding a dirty mattress that would make you cringe. Go ahead, peel off that clean sheet and look at the surface underneath. Consider the drool, sweat, dandruff and other bodily fluids that make it through your sheets and onto your bed.

Washing your sheets is not enough. You should clean and deodorize your bed regularly. Spot cleaning will remove any stains that may have attached to your bed. Deodorizing will get rid of any unwanted smells that linger. Cleaning your bed isn’t hard. Follow these simple steps and you will sleep better knowing that your mattress is clean.

Vacuum
First, use your vacuum with a hose attachment to vacuum every inch of your bed. Using a brush attachment on the hose will pick up the dandruff and dust that has collected on the surface. If you have a pet, you will want to pay extra attention to the sides and undeath of the bed where hair can collect. You will want to remove these loose particles before you begin the process of washing your bed.

Spot Clean
Second, check for stains. Spots on your bed go unseen if they are covered by your sheets, but the smells and bacteria can seep onto your clean sheets. To remove a stain, mix a little dish detergent with water and mix until it foams. Use the foam to rub the stain. Allow it to sit for a couple of minutes and then blot it clean with a damp wash cloth. If the stain persists, you may want to invest in a premixed solution from the store that will attack the stain with a little more fervor. Allow the fabric on your bed to dry completely before putting your clean sheets back on.

Deodorize
Lastly, to deodorize your bed, fill a spray bottle with 3 parts water and 1 part vinegar. The vinegar solution will kill germs and bacteria that might be on your mattress. Spray the entire bed evenly, but do not saturate the cloth. After applying the vinegar solution, sprinkle baking soda on the top of your bed. The baking soda will pull any unwanted scents out of the fabric. The baking soda will clump together because of the vinegar solution. It will take several hours for your mattress to dry so plan accordingly. Once the vinegar solution has dried, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda.

Now you have vacuumed your mattress twice, the stains have been removed and it is deodorized. You may want to invest in a cover for your bed that will protect it in the future. Slip those clean sheets back on and enjoy a truly clean bed.
